World Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21. There is no public holiday on this day. It is a day for people to create awareness about yoga throughout the world. The main objective of International Yoga Day (IYD) is to raise awareness about yoga and to make people aware of the benefits achieved through yoga. International Yoga Day in India is celebrated by the Ministry of “AYUSH”.

In the logo, the color of the person’s body is shown in blue color, which reflects the water element. Brown and green leaves have been shown next to the person. Green leaves symbolize nature, brown leaves symbolize earth elements, yellow color symbolizes the eye element and the solar energy is the source of inspiration.
Apart from this, Yoga for Harmony and Peace is written on the bottom of this logo, because with the help of yoga, people also achieve Harmony and Peace.
History Of International Yoga Day
The significance of yoga practice is an integral part of India’s history. It was most often publicized by Swami Vivekananda Ji.
International Yoga Day was initiated by the present Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 27 September 2014 through his speech on the United Nations General Assembly.
Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014, after which he went to America for the first time to join the UN General Assembly.
In this assembly, Narendra Modi proposed International Yoga Day. This proposal was approved by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014. 170 countries supported this proposal.
After this, the UN General Assembly’s chairman declared the International Yoga Day on June 21. This was for the first time that any proposal in the United Nations General Assembly was passed in just 100 days.
Why International Yoga Day Is Celebrated On 21 June
There is a reason behind celebrating International Yoga Day on June 21. It is Grisham Sankranthi on this day. On this day the Sun begins to move from north to south in the context of the earth, by the 21st of June the sun moves in front of the Northern Hemisphere. After 21st June it starts moving towards the Southern Hemisphere.
From the viewpoint of yoga, it is a time of transformation period. This time is considered to be a better time for conversion. That is why International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June.
First International Yoga Day 2015
The first International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June 2015. About 36,000 people including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dignitaries performed 21 yoga postures on the first International Yoga Day in New Delhi for 35 minutes.

Second International Yoga Day 2016
During the International Yoga Day 2016 celebrations, the government decided to take Yoga ahead with the maximum active participation of the youth.
On June 20th and 21st, 2016, a function was organized in the United Nations, which was named “Conversation with Yoga Master”. In India, the AYUSH Ministry organized the World Yoga Day event as “The National Event of Mass Yoga Demonstration”, at Chandigarh.
Baba Ramdev along with his side Acharya Balkrishna has given 25 years to explain the significance of Yoga and Ayurveda in the country, due to this, the Haryana BJP government has made Ramdev Baba the brand ambassador of Yoga.

Third International Yoga Day 2017
International Yoga Day 2017 was celebrated in Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh. Attended by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and 50000 people together at Ramabai Ambedkar ground in Lucknow.

International Yoga Day Controversy
In order to avoid controversy during the International Yoga Day, the government officially removed the necessity or say compulsion of Surya Namaskar, Shlok Chanting, Mantra etc. from the yoga program and appealed Muslims also to participate in the Yoga Day.
Shreepad Nayak, Minister of AYUSH Ministry, suggested to Muslims to read the name of Allah in this program instead of Shloka and Mantra.
