Best time to do Yoga and Meditation (Morning or Night)

According to today’s lifestyle, yoga holds great importance in our lives. But one thing that will come several times in your mind is that what is the best time to do yoga and Meditation.

This question usually comes in the mind of all those who are in the beginning stage of yoga and meditation and this is a natural and good suspicion because choosing a favorable time for yoga is very important.

There are some yoga exercises which you can do even after 1-2 hours or half an hour of your meal and also some which you can practice immediately after the meal.

Now, some people have a shortage of time, they do not have time for yoga and meditation. So there is a question in their mind that, can they do yoga at noon or evening or at the night?

What Is The Best Time To Do Yoga?

The best time to practice Yoga is at 5-7 am in the morning. Before sunrise time is also considered the best time for doing Yoga.

Traditionally, the day has been divided into four parts: Brahma Muhurta, Sunrise, Afternoon and Sunset. The time from 3 o’clock to 4 o’clock is known as Brahma Muhurta.

In reality, for many of us, it is not so easy to get up early in the morning especially for the late night owls.

However, getting up early in the morning is really very important because if you sleep for 8 hours a day, then you are spending about 1/3 of your whole life while sleeping.

So the best time to do Yoga is before the sunrise. If you are not able to wake up early in the morning you can also practice yoga at any time before 8 o’clock.

The reason behind this is that. You sleep well overnight, your stomach is empty in the morning, your dinner is digested, and most importantly, there are no thoughts in your mind that will distract you.

Under these conditions, you are able to focus on your yoga practice. One more advantage of morning yoga is that you can practice any Yoga, Mudra, Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation.

By the end of the day, your body is very tired and sleepy. So do not practice very tough Yoga asanas/poses in the evening. You can practice the beginner’s yoga in the evening. Vajrasana is the only yoga asana which you can practice immediately after your meal or anytime during the day.

What Is The Best Time To Do Pranayama?

Pranayam is a breathing technique in which we work on our breath. The morning time is the best time for pranayama.

Now in the Yoga Asanas, we use physical force, but there is no need of physical force in pranayama. As we all know, air/oxygen is clean during the morning compared to noon and evening. So if we do pranayama in the morning then we will get the benefit of that pure oxygen.

There are 10-12 types of pranayama, in which 5 pranayama breathing techniques are best for beginners and every other seeker.

There are some such pranayama exercises that we can do even after 1-2 hours of eating such as Anulom Vilom, Bhramari etc. But pranayama like Kapalbhati and Bahya pranayama should be practiced only after 4-5 hours after eating.

What Is The Best Time To Do Meditation?

Meditation is the simplest form of Yoga, but as simple it is, the harder it is to practice. To meditate, we have to focus our mind on our breaths.

Now, meditation is a mental exercise, so it can be done at any time during the day. It can be done immediately after the meal, as it does not require any physical force.

We recommend practicing Meditation early in the morning because the environment is calm in the morning which helps us to focus.

The best time to meditate is just after pranayama. By pranayama, we remove all the negative energy and toxins from our body, which distracts our mind.

It is very helpful in meditation because after pranayama there is no negative energy and thoughts left in our mind. Yoga Nidra is also a type of meditation which can be practiced anytime during the day.

In the morning our body works to remove the toxins inside of our body. By doing yoga and pranayama, we can extract toxins in a large amount. In general, where 50-60% of toxins have to go out of our body, at the same time, we can extract 80-90% toxins from our body if we practice yoga in the morning.

Yoga is very good in the morning because we sleep well overnight, our mind also remains in a state of rest, so while doing yoga in the morning there are no external thoughts in our mind and we can make a better concentration on our practice.

Benefits Of Doing Yoga In The Evening

By working throughout the day, our body and mind muscles are exhausted. There are some such yoga and pranayama practices which help to boost up our body and mind. it helps us in better sleep which is an important aspect of our life. Good sleep after a busy day.

Why Not Do Yoga At Noon?

Yoga should never be practiced during the afternoon. The reason is very simple, we have already eaten 1 or 2 meals and afternoon is considered good for the digestion process. If you do yoga during the afternoon it can spoil your digestion. False digestion process can accumulate unwanted foods in our stomach.

Why Not Do Yoga After Meal?

When we do Yoga, the flow of blood in our body starts to accelerate, so always practice yoga with the empty stomach.

On the other hand, our stomach needs blood to digest the food. Now if we practice yoga after the meal then blood will start flowing in our whole body, as a result, our food will not be digested.
